FORT LAUDERDALE, Fl – ChildNet, the Community Based Care lead child welfare agency in Broward and Palm Beach counties, recently hosted an open house for its new headquarters in Fort Lauderdale. Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler, Vice Mayor Robert McKinzie and Florida Representative George Moraitis were among the civic leaders that attended.

“We thank Mayor Seiler, Vice Mayor McKinzie and Representative Moraitis, our service providers, partners and those community leaders who joined us at the open house,” said ChildNet Board Chair Sigrid McCawley of Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP. “We particularly want to thank major donors Kevin White of Marsh McClennan Agency, Crump Insurance and Florida Community Bank for their support of our new building.”

As the single private non-profit entity responsible for administration of the local child welfare system in Broward and Palm Beach counties, ChildNet brings years of dedication to protecting abused, abandoned and neglected children in the communities it serves.

Located at 1100 W. McNab Road, the 83,000 sq.-ft. state-of-the-art, stand-alone building provides expanded office space and visitation rooms where families and children can meet in a safe, quiet environment.

The seven new visitation rooms were a community effort where more than 60 volunteers from BB&T’s Lighthouse Project decorated and painted colorful murals in each room of Dr. Seuss, Disney and storybook characters. The murals were designed by artists from ArtServe, Broward County’s premier art service organization. BB&T won an internal national Spirit Award for the project which came with $5,000 that the team donated back to ChildNet.

Local Girl Scout Junior Troop 10274 designed the décor of the lobby and donated essentials needed by children in foster care. The Troop also won the Girl Scout Bronze Award for the project.

“We are so appreciative of our partners for their generosity in creating such a warm and safe environment for the children and families in our care,” said Monica King, executive director of ChildNet in Broward County. “We also thank everyone who came to our open house for a tour and to learn more about how we serve the community.”
