PRO FOOTBALL LEGENDS

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - Reidel Anthony, Cornelius Bennett, Ki-Jana Carter, Anthony Muñoz, Bob Griese, OJ McDuffie, Dwight Stephenson, John Randle, Andre Reed, Duane Starks and Jack Youngblood are just some of the pro football legends that will be in town January 20 - 22 to participate in the Pro Football Legends Classic, benefiting the Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center in Fort Lauderdale.

Foursomes are available to participate in the Legends Classic and tickets are available to the fundraising reception. Players and guests will enjoy a casual golf outing on Tuesday, January 21 at Grande Oaks Golf Club followed by an evening fundraising reception. The Golf Classic is a four-person scramble on Wednesday, January 22 at Jacaranda Golf Club, where the east and west courses are newly restored and are four-star rated by Golf Digest.

An awards ceremony and closing reception will follow the Golf Classic on Wednesday. Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place teams and to winners of the closest to the pin, longest drive and straightest drive. Golfers will also compete for an opportunity to win up to $1 million and a choice of exciting golf excursions to such prestigious courses as St. Andrews, Pebble Beach and Augusta.

“Even though we are not hosting Super Bowl in South Florida this year, we are proud to celebrate the football season with these NFL stars and golfers with warm temps, welcoming beaches and cheering fans,” said Nicki E. Grossman, president of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Spectators are welcome to attend both golf events.

Check in for players is on Monday, January 20 when there will be an invitation only VIP opening reception at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, the host hotel.

Golf America Television will air two 30-minute segments in more than 80 markets across the country, resulting in extensive exposure for the South Florida market, according to Lucia Anreus-Hall, managing partner and producer of in the Pro Football Legends Classic. “This is a great opportunity for us to showcase the golf courses and lifestyle in beautiful South Florida,” said Anreus-Hall.  “National and local companies can take advantage of the excellent exposure this event will bring, not to mention that they have the extraordinary chance to play golf with some of the most talented and well-known pro football players in the history of the game.”

Part of the proceeds of the Pro Football Legends Classic will be donated to the Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center, Inc. (CDTC), one of the largest children’s agencies in South Florida and provides medical care, case management, social services and other types of intervention to children and adolescents with chronic illnesses and development disabilities. CDTC also provides support and education to families.
