Big Dog LogoFORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- The Humane Society of Broward County is thrilled to host our second annual Big Dog Men’s Invitational Golf Tournament on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club.  If last year’s success is any indication, this event will be the BARK of the town. After 15+years of great success with Paws on the Green (the ladies’ invitational golf tournament), it was only time before the guys would have their own tournament to benefit our furry friends at the Humane Society of Broward County.

All handicap levels will enjoy the Shamble format to compete for great name brand golf equipment, not to mention bragging rights of being the BIG DOGS. Trophies will be awarded to the First and Second place teams in their perspective flights while the Low Overall Gross and Low Overall Net winning teams will go home with golf equipment in addition to their trophies. Their names will also be engraved on a plaque to forever grace the walnut base that holds the BIG DOG ceramic CHAMPION cup. Players will continue to play their own ball out once the best drive position has been determined. The score for each hole will be determined by the TWO best gross scores and the TWO best net scores.

Players will also try to hit the Longest Drive to win a new driver or get their ball Closest to the Pin to win a new 3-wood. If you hit that wayward shot, no problem, Your Muttigan - Giving Pets a Second Shot, lets you do it over. If you don’t win golf equipment maybe you’ll score BIG on one of the Par-3 holes and hit a Hole-In-One. Last year, Ken Larsen did and won a $25,000 cash prize sponsored by Emerging Magazine. Ken and his foursome made the decision to “share the wealth” with the shelter IF anyone should win. Call it great karma or great luck, anyway you look at it, the animals were the lucky ones that day. Event Co-Chair, Cherie Marshall, comments, “We did very well for our first event; we made over $41,000 for the animals. This year, we’re going to make over $50,000.”

Luck and/or karma can still be yours even if you aren’t a golfer. Our grand prize in our drawing is a one-week stay in a luxury 3-bedroom condo in Los Suenos Costa Rica. Just steps beyond the Luxury Marriott Golf Resort, the lucky winner and their 5 guests can enjoy world-class sport fishing, golf or zip lining in the lush forest canopy. Winner need not be present to win but you do have to purchase a ticket, or two.

For you long hitters and even new players, match your drive to the expert at the Drive Like a Pro hole. For a donation, the PGA Pro will drive off the tee for your team. All players can still hit, choosing the best drive from all five to play their second shots from. Prizes will also be awarded to the most agile chipper on the course. It won’t be about just getting it closest to the hole… it’s over the jump fence and then, closest to the hole. And if you are still not convinced why you should be attending the Big Dog Men’s Invitational Golf Tournament yet, let us give you one million reasons. Before players and guests head upstairs for food, awards and the silent auction, a handful of players whose names have been randomly drawn will have a chance at winning $1,000,000 cash by hitting a hole-in-one at one of the pre-determined holes…the distance a mere 165+ yards.

The event is being chaired by Melody and Ali Saleh and Cherie and John Marshall.  Honorary Chairs for this event Steve and Jeannie Hudson. The dinner and awards portion of the tournament will be emceed by BIG 105.9’s sports commentator Dave Lamont.  Dave will be BIG’s player representative in the tournament.
