8 Tips to Channel Your Adult ADHDAs an adult with ADHD you might struggle with a mental unbalance sometimes and you find it hard to focus on one task at a time. It also causes personal turmoil and affects you mentally.  It can contribute to low self-esteem, troubled relationships, and difficulty at work or school.

As an adult living with ADHD, I have tried many different methods treatments to see what works best. For me, writing is one way I can express my emotions.

If you struggle with adult ADHD, here are eight steps that might help you:

1. Identifying the signs of ADHD: Are you struggling with normal day events, tasks or activities?Do you always feel hazy or you are constantly daydreaming? Do you second-guess yourself or have a hard time focusing on finishing tasks? You might have ADHD.

2. Consult a Physician: You might have done a little research and identified the signs of your condition personally and that is a good first step. You will need to consult a physician so you can have the proper diagnosis.

3.Accepting your ADHD: After you have the diagnosis from your physician, take some time to accept and cope with your condition. You might want to seek a second physician’s opinion before you come up with a medical treatment.

4. Alternative medical treatments: Ask your physician about other alternative treatments before being prescribed medication. Your physician’s recommendations might be the best treatment, but do some personal research on alternative treatments to help you manage your ADHD. Working with your physician on your treatment plan will make it a lot easier for you to handle your ADHD

5. Focus your mind: Take a few deep breaths, write an outline of the task before starting, break down the outline into steps. After each step is completed check it off and continue on with the next one, until the entire task is finished.

6. Creative exploring: If you are constantly daydreaming about different ideas ,it might be a concept for a new invention or an unrealistic adventure you see yourself in. When you’re not doing your mandatory tasks, set up your schedule so you have time set aside to ponder these ideas. This creative thinking time will also help melt away the stresses of dealing with ADHD.

7. Sounds of serenity: Listen to different genres of music lightly in the background while you are performing your everyday tasks. It might help you focus more and can help during your creative thinking time. Music is a good tool to have on your side when dealing with ADHD.

8. Unleash your creativity: After you have pondered on your different ideas make them reality. For some, that means turning those few ideas into a story or creating an original concept. Once you learn to focus your ADHD, it may help create amazing stories or new concepts.

Having ADHD doesn’t have to ruin your life. Everyone is uniquely different and what works for one might not work for the other, but these steps can put you on the path to living life with ADHD.  For me, coping with ADHD through writing helps both mentally and physically. Expressing myself through the written word is both exhilarating and therapeutic
