Following the recent second year kick-off of its campaign to raise awareness of the importance of regular school attendance, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) joins school districts around the country in recognizing and celebrating September as National Attendance Month.
Last year, BCPS launched its own attendance campaign – Attendance Counts! All Day, Everyday. The effort, spearheaded by the Student Services Department, raises awareness and emphasizes the importance of regular attendance throughout the school year. As the school year continues, the District is taking part in National Attendance Awareness Month, stressing how important being in school each day is to academic performance.
"Nationally, we know that students who have strong attendance generally demonstrate better grades and overall perform better academically,” said Dr. Laurel E. Thompson, director, Students Services Department. “This is an effort to raise the District’s average daily attendance and reduce the rate of chronic absenteeism among the students in our schools.”
Student Services is supporting the national movement to recognize September as Attendance Awareness Month with a renewed push to get all students to school. The entire community – schools, businesses, parents, students, teachers – is invited to join the movement to get students to school every day and make every day count.
