Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert W. RuncieOver 260,000 students will say goodbye to their summer break and head back to class on Monday, August 24, 2015, as Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) launches its 100th school year. Like many students on the first day of school, BCPS Superintendent Robert W. Runcie begins the busy opening day with a school bus ride.

Superintendent Runcie will meet bus operators at the Southwest Transportation Bus Terminal in Pembroke Pines at 5:30 a.m., before boarding the school bus to welcome students back to school. The Superintendent’s day also includes visits to several elementary, middle and high schools throughout the District.

“This is an exciting time of year for our students and families,” said Superintendent Runcie. “More importantly, our principals, teachers and staff are excited to begin the school year, and ensure our students have a great first day and school year. This year also marks an important milestone for our District. It is the 100th anniversary of Broward County Public Schools.”

The Superintendent concludes the day by hosting a news conference at 3:30 p.m. (Kathleen C. Wright Administration Center, 600 SE Third Avenue in Fort Lauderdale) to discuss the start of the new school year. (Superintendent’s First Day of School Visits schedule attached.)
