Flipping the Script a Teen Prevention & Intervention Summit

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS), in partnership with OIC (Opportunities Industrialization Centers) of South Florida (OIC-SFL), presents “Flipping the Script” – A Teen Prevention & Intervention Summit, September 25-26, 2015, at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center, 1950 Eisenhower Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.

The first day of the two-day summit, Friday, September 25, is by invitation only for BCPS educators and administrators, community leaders, and partners in prevention. The second day, Saturday, September 26, is for South Florida youth and students, parents/guardians, educators, community leaders and organizations, which are champions for prevention and positive youth development.

The free summit features activities to encourage teens to “Use Your Mind, Not Your Body.”  Hosted by 99 Jamz’ Felicia Monet, the event includes special guest speakers, Felecia Hatcher, social entrepreneur and author; Devin T. Robinson X “Egypt,” actor/activist; and Tish Hall, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Office of Adolescent Health. Activities include spoken word, fashion show, music, drama, original youth art, and interactive breakout sessions and conversations led by youth, young adults, along with OIC-SFL and BCPS Diversity, Prevention & Intervention Department leaders on the following topics:

•     Raising Aspirations: Education, Career and Future Focus

•     Enhance Educator Awareness and Capacity to Support the Family Life and Human Sexuality Policy and Curriculum Implementation

•     Heighten Awareness of Prevention & Intervention Strategies

•     Developing Positive Self-Image

•     Media and the Adolescent Mind

•     Looking at Diversity, Disparities and Equity

•     Strategies for Healthy Relationships

•     Family Strengthening

Registration is free and open to all who wish to attend on Saturday, September 26. Continental breakfast and lunch will be served.  Convention Center parking garage rates apply.
