BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo is known worldwide for catching the final out that lead the Cubs to their first World Series Championship since 1908, but it's his work off the field that's being celebrated on Sunday in Broward County. 

Broward County Commissioner Michael Udine will present the world class athlete with a proclamation designating December 11th as "Anthony Rizzo Appreciation Day" as the champion hosts the Fifth Annual Walk Off for Cancer benefitting the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation. 

Michael Udine 8X10 Hi Res Headshot7118"Anthony Rizzo is a hometown hero with a big heart.  Through this event Mr. Rizzo has raised more than $2.5 million for cancer research and to assist families and children battling cancer in Broward County," said Commissioner Udine. 

The proclamation presentation takes place on Sunday, December 11th at 8:30 a.m. at Pine Trails Park, 10555 NW Trails End, Parkland.  The walk officially begins at 9:00 a.m. with a community celebration getting underway at 7:30 a.m.

Mr. Rizzo was born and raised in Parkland and has a personal history with cancer. The World Series champ was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma at age 18.  His grandmother was battling breast cancer at the same time.  To help others the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation was created in 2012.  This year more than one-thousand people have registered to participate in the charity event
