Fort Lauderdale – In commemoration of May being National Mental Health Awareness month, the Board Of County Commissioners of Broward County, Florida presented a Proclamation to One Community Two Partnership (OCP2), along with Human Services Department, the Community Partnerships Division, the Children’s Services Administration Section and its Children’s Services Board, Broward Behavioral Health Coalition, United Way of Broward County, and South Florida Wellness Network, in recognition of their on-going efforts to address the complex mental health needs of children, youth and families in Broward County. OCP2 engages Broward partners and community members to serve young people and focus on their recovery, resiliency and wellness.
Broward County Vice Mayor Beam Furr presented the proclamation, designating the month of May 2017 as “Broward County’s Children’s Mental Health Awareness Month,” to Silvia Quintana, CEO of Broward Behavioral Health Coalition; Arthur Gallop, youth advocate at South Florida Wellness Network; Emery Cowan, Project Director for OCP2; and Susan Nyamora, President/CEO of South Florida Wellness Network. The ceremony took place during the Broward County Commission meeting on Tuesday, May 2nd.
The Proclamation recognizes the need for comprehensive, coordinated behavioral, mental and emotional health and wellness services for children, youth, their families, and peers; and declares that a time should be set apart each year for the direction of our thoughts toward the health and well-being of our children and youth in the community.
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month and to inform the community about the importance of children and youth mental health needs and to reduce stigma, United Way of Broward County Commission on Substance Abuse & Broward Behavioral Health Coalition’s One Community Partnership 2 (OCP2) will be hosting the 2nd Annual OCP2 Wellness Day for Broward County youth, families, and community providers on May 13th at Central Broward Regional Park and a Cross Systems Training for front line staff on May 16th at Tree Tops Park. Additionally, United Way of Broward County Commission on Substance Abuse, in collaboration with Broward Behavioral Health Coalition, Florida Community Bank and Signature Grand, is also presenting the 3rd Annual Behavioral Health Conference: Building Healthier Communities, a two-day conference (May 22-23) promoting community awareness and support of mental health and substance use prevention.
