FORT LAUDERDALE – This April, the curtain rises at the Parker Playhouse for a spectacular lineup of exciting shows and performances, featuring TV star Debra Jo Rupp in the critically acclaimed play Becoming Dr. Ruth, soulful singer-songwriter Amos Lee, legendary Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett and the wickedly funny theatrical adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ brilliant novel The Screwtape Letters.

Audiences can experience the amazing folk-soul vibe of Amos Lee when he performs in concert with special guest Adrien Reju on Friday, April 4 at 8 p.m., presented by the Broward Center and AEG Live. With his laid-back vocal delivery and acoustic songwriting, Lee’s musical style draws inspiration from soul music and contemporary jazz, creating a unique blend of acoustic funk, folk and light jazz. He is currently touring in support of his latest critically acclaimed album Mountains of Sorrow, Rivers of Song, which the New York Times called, “A serenely sure-footed effort…from a singer-songwriter who rarely delivers anything else.” For each ticket sold, Lee will donate one dollar to Musicians on Call, a non-profit organization that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities. Tickets are $37 and $47.

AEG live presents pioneering lead guitarist of Genesis Steve Hackett as part of the Genesis Revisited 2014 World Tour on Saturday, April 5 at 8 p.m. Hackett will perform the legendary progressive rock group’s timeless hits while impressing audiences with his ability to weave ambiance and texture into the fabric of music. Tickets are $50.35 to $92.75, with VIP tickets available for $177.55, which include a meet and greet.

Fellowship Performing Arts presents C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12. A sold-out hit in New York, Chicago, Boston, Dallas and Washington, D.C., this funny and provocative theatrical adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ brilliant novel The Screwtape Letters depicts spiritual warfare from a demon’s point of view and has been praised by the Wall Street Journal as “wickedly witty” and by the Chicago Sun-Times as “smart, sizzling entertainment!” This performance is appropriate for children ages 13 and up. Performances will take place on Friday, April 11 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 12 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are $29 to $69.

Direct from its critically acclaimed New York run, Becoming Dr. Ruth comes to the Parker Playhouse Wednesday, April 16 through Sunday, April 20 as part of the 2014 WinterStage Series, presented by the Broward Center and Matthew Lombardo. Starring TV actress Debra Jo Rupp (That 70's Show) as Dr. Ruth Westheimer, the play tells the story of Karola Ruth Siegel, from surviving the Holocaust to joining the Israeli Haganah as a sniper, to receiving her doctorate and becoming a household name as America's favorite sex therapist. It recounts her life with warmth, wisdom and irrepressible joy. Performance times are: Wednesday, April 16 at 8 p.m.; Thursday, April 17 at 2 and 8 p.m.; Friday, April 18 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, April 19 at 2 and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, April 20 at 1 p.m. Individual tickets are $28 to $66.50 with discount tickets for groups of 10 or more priced at $26to $60.
