Valerie Norman Gammon, Director of Cultural Affairs for the City of Miramar, announced five upcoming art exhibitions that will be presented at the popular, multipurpose Miramar Cultural Center/ArtsPark Ansin Family Art Gallery.
"Get ready for another impressive artistic season,” says Ms. Gammon. “We’ve scheduled five exciting exhibitions that are certain to appeal to our growing and diverse community, including a timely and compelling photographic collective of President Barack Obama’s presidency. Best of all, the Miramar Cultural Center/ArtsPark is easy to get to and a great place to relax and appreciate the arts.”
The Cultural Center will be hosting the five major exhibitions from September 2015 through August 2016, including:

NIÑA / PINTA / SANTA MARIA
A collection of art pieces that celebrate the distinct, vibrant and rich traditions of Hispanic Heritage. Artists include Joan Belmar from Chile, Aimee Perez from Cuba, Francisco Pazos from Spain, and Octabio Cuellar, who is Yuoslabian/Cuban.

PURVIS ON PAPER
A unique exhibit filled with 30 works by internationally renowned, Miami-based artist Purvis Young. His work, often a blend of collage and painting, utilizes found objects and the experience of African-Americans in the South.

Pete Souza, Chief Official White House Photographer, has previously worked for both National Geographic and the Reagan White House, and brings a unique insider’s perspective to his extraordinary photographs.

104 framed black and white and color pictures of women and still lifes by Los Angeles photographer Ralph Gibson. His photographs allow the subject to become not only more vividly themselves, but also evoke what one cannot see beyond the picture plane.

AWAKENING JAMAICA
In 1891, a group of Jamaican businessmen calling themselves the “Awakening Jamaica” committee hired Valentine & Sons of Dundee, Scotland to travel to Jamaica to create a photographic portrait of the island as a commercial and tourist paradise. The 116 large format photographs were displayed to great acclaim at the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago.

The Miramar Cultural Center/ArtsPark was created to celebrate creativity and diversity within the city.
