FORT LAUDERDALE – JM Family Enterprises Smart Stage Matinee Series presents a journey into American history as they learn about the life and adventures of the young, Native American woman and key member of the Lewis & Clark expedition in Sacagawea on Thursday, November 19 at 10 a.m. in the Amaturo Theater.
Traveling from the Missouri River to the Pacific Ocean with Captains Merriweather Lewis and William Clark, Sacagawea hiked through mountains and across dangerous waters to help open up the American West. This original production, recommended for students in grades 3 – 5, dramatizes how Sacagawea became an interpreter, negotiator, friend and heroine to two of America's famous explorers, and eventually became an American legend.
Presented by the Broward Center for the Performing Arts by professional theater companies, the JM Family Enterprises Smart Stage Matinee Series promotes reading skills and science- and math-related knowledge making challenging concepts accessible to younger learners.
Tickets are $7.20 and $5 for groups of 10 or more with $3 lap seats for infants 12 months and under. Groups of 10 or more may also purchase admission to the 40-minute Smart Stage Plus workshop on Thursday, November 19 at 11:20 a.m. in the JM Family Studio Theater. Incorporating hands-on learning and building on the show’s themes and educational content, the workshop utilizes fun and engaging storytelling exercises to encourage students connect thoughts and feelings evoked by the performance to their own lives and experiences. Smart Stage Plus tickets are $11 and include the performance. Admission is limited to 50 students and tickets may be purchased by calling 954-660-6307.
