FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Members of more than a dozen non-profit organizations as well as local artists collaborate to celebrate the important role art plays in the healing process as ArtServe presents “Inside/OUT: Art as Healing Therapy,” from Friday, April 15 – Friday, May 13. There will be a free gallery reception on Thursday, April 28 from 6 – 8 p.m.

“Art can often help people express their feelings or emotions they are not able to communicate in any other way,” said President and CEO of ArtServe Jaye Abbate. “Many local health care and community organizations are doing tremendously important work using art as a therapeutic tool and one that enriches their members lives.  ArtServe is pleased to once again serve as a collaborative partner and a showcase for their programs.”Participating organizations include: Brushstrokes Art Therapy featuring artwork by individuals with dementia; Cameras for Kids Foundation; Friends and Stars, Inc. offering  arts programs for people with special needs; One Community Partnership 2 serving youth 14 – 21 years of age; Paintings in the Sky, a  kite project for homeless children; and Schott Communities serving the needs of the deaf and disabled. The reception will also feature performances by Ann Storck Center and the Exceptional Theatre Company.

“Whether working through pain, loss, or other emotional and physical challenges, every artist at some stage in their artistic career has used their art in healing,” said Abbate. “Many ArtServe members and local artists are sharing their works as part of this special exhibit.”
Renda Writer will be creating an affirmation wall mural while other participating artists include Janet Gold and her survivor wig series, Michael Colanero and Uncommon Gallery presenting artworks from the Body Painting Project for breast cancer awareness, and Eva Ritvo and The Bold

Beauty Project presenting photos by Robert Zuckermann spotlighting women with varying disabilities.
Also in April, the Goldstein Schechter Koch CPAS & Wealth Advisors Gallery will host an exhibition by Wilma Bulkin Siegel, M.D.  Gallery 133 at ArtServe will feature an exhibition by painter Leonardo Montoya who works in the artistic styles of pop-art, realism and art deco.
ArtServe is located at 1350 E. Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale and admission to the gallery is free.

Gallery hours are Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
