FORT LAUDERDALE, Fl –  Jamie Danger of Pembroke Pines was crowned the winner of Tri-Rail’s 11th annual “Senior Stars,” with hundreds of fans cheering her on during the highly anticipated show at Parker Playhouse. Eleven finalists took center stage competing for the $500 grand prize, pass to ride Tri-Rail for a year and the winning title.

“For the past eleven years, Tri-Rail has been proud to continue the tradition of showcasing talented seniors,” said Bonnie Arnold, public information officer for SFRTA/Tri-Rail. “This singing competition is another way Tri-Rail continues to honor its commitment to the senior community, in addition to offering discounted fares for riders 65 years and older.”

Radio and TV personality Jade Alexander, now hosting the weekday show on The Beach 102.7FM, served as the special guest presenter of the competition showcasing solo singers, 65 years and older, who are residents of Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. The contestants were judged on talent, style and stage presence as they performed hits ranging from “All That Jazz” to “Blue Suede Shoes,” which drew the audience to their feet.

It was Jamie Danger’s rendition of Let It Go from Disney’s Frozen that won her the winning title of Tri-Rail’s “Senior Stars.” She was presented with the grand prize by Tri-Rail/SFRTA Deputy Executive Director Mikel Oglesby. Judy Lanier of Tamarac was named the first runner-up, with Lesley Miller of Coconut Creek in third place. Attendees also enjoyed performances from The Villagers of John Knox Village, 2015 Senior Stars winner Tim Hawkins, MikeSoperMusic Artists and 2016 South Florida’s Kids Got Talent winner Casandra Ortiz.

Tri-Rail’s “Senior Stars” sponsors included Baptist Eye Surgery Center, John Knox Village, Boomer Times and Symphony at the Waterways. A portion of show ticket sales benefit Broward Meals on Wheels, an organization dedicated to improving health, reducing isolation and promoting independent living for seniors in our community.
