FORT LAUDERDALE, FL  – The Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) will host the Mercedes-Benz Fort Lauderdale MODS Masquerade – A Venetian Fantasy Gala on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 6 p.m. Guests will enjoy a formal masquerade themed evening with a Venetian twist complete with dining and dancing at the Museum located at 401 SW 2nd Street in Fort Lauderdale.

This year’s gala will honor Jonathan Ferrando, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Discovery and Science and Executive Vice President of AutoNation, Inc. who will be presented with MODS’ prestigious Community Leadership Award. Ferrando has served 10 years as Chairman of the Board and has co-chaired the Museum’s $33 million capital campaign.

The Museum of Discovery and Science’s capital campaign is moving closer to completion because of Ferrando’s leadership. The campaign has already funded the EcoDiscovery Center wing that opened in 2011, more than doubling the Museum’s exhibit space. The campaign’s final phase includes: development of a 27,000 square foot Science Park facing Broward Boulevard; exhibit upgrades and  renovations to the 24 year-old original facility; and renovation of the AutoNation IMAX 3D Theater, adding digital and now a laser projection system in October 2016. AutoNation has generously provided the lead gift for the campaign.

The MODS Masquerade Gala is co-Chaired by Tom Angelo, Joe Atkinson and Kenneth Stiles. This much anticipated event will host 650 guests who will experience an evening complete with high-energy cocktail reception, silent auction and glamorous dinner and wine pairing. Later in the evening, the crowd will dance the night away and compete for some luxurious live auction items.

President/CEO Kim Cavendish stated, “We are pleased to honor our esteemed Chairman Jon Ferrando at this year’s gala. His generous support and positive leadership over the past decade have continuously moved the Museum forward.”

Sponsors and benefactors are recognized at the exclusive Underwriters’ Party held prior to the event on September 27, 2016.

All proceeds will benefit programming at the Museum of Discovery and Science.
