Davie, FL - Described as “a vibrant mix of virtuosity, energy, and empathy” by The Washington Post, the Irish ensemble Danú celebrates Christmas with Féile na Nollag (A Christmas Gathering) at Bailey Hall on Tuesday, December 13th at 7:30 p.m.

The concert offers a taste of traditional holiday events held across Ireland in both urban and rural communities for hundreds of years. Christmas in Ireland is one of the most important holidays for families and friends, as many Irish people living abroad come home to celebrate.

“Music is an essential part of any Celtic Christmas celebration and this performance is no exception,” said Dr. Dan Barnard, associate dean of cultural affairs and director of Bailey Hall. “Danú plays to standing room only concerts throughout Ireland and we are pleased to bring this authentic holiday celebration to South Florida.”

Known for virtuoso players on fiddle, flutes, button accordion and percussion, Danú also features the gorgeous voice of Nell Ní Chróinín along with top notch guest dancers. The group’s high-energy performances contain a splendid mix of ancient Irish music and new repertoire.

Winners of numerous awards from the BBC and Irish Music Magazine, Danú has performed in well-known concert venues including The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and Symphony Space in New York City, and toured extensively in the United Kingdom, India, Israel and across Europe. The ensemble’s recordings are available on the Shanachie label and live performances often are broadcast on NPR, the CBC and the BBC.
