One Night of Queen - April 22

PEMBROKE PINES, Fl -- The City of City of Pembroke Pines will celebrate its 57th birthday in a royal manner – with One Night of Queen performed by Gary Mullen & The Works. The concert, recreating the look, sound, pomp and showmanship of Queen and its flamboyant frontman Freddie Mercury, will be held in the Great Hall at the Pembroke Pines City Center on Saturday, April 22 at 8 p.m.

In a staggeringly convincing show, the group hailed as the world’s premier Queen tribute band, will perform a two-hour concert featuring all of Queen’s blockbuster hits including “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Killer Queen,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “We Are the Champions” and many more.

Of a 2009 concert, the Salt Lake Tribune reported “Those who don't believe in reincarnation should have spent Thursday night inside a packed Kingsbury Hall watching Gary Mullen and The Works impersonate Queen. Wearing tight white pants, some ancient Adidas sneakers and often little else, Mullen brought legendary Queen front man Freddie Mercury back to life in a two-hour energy-filled concert that had toddlers to grandparents dancing in the aisles.”

The show’s roots go back to 2000 when Mullen won the grand finale of Stars in Their Eyes, a British TV show in which contestants impersonate famous performers, with the largest number of votes in the show’s history. Two years later, he formed The Works, comprised of Davie Brockett on guitar, Jonathan Evans on drums, Billy Moffat on bass and Malcolm Gentles on keyboards.

Over the past 14 years, Gary Mullen & The Works have performed One Night of Queen to sold-out audiences throughout the U.S., Europe, South Africa and New Zealand.

Earlier in the day, Pines Day will feature a full afternoon of free family fun at the Pembroke Pines City Center from noon to 6 p.m. Highlights will include the selection of the 2017 Royal Court, a Kids Konnection Business Expo, Children’s Stage performances, Food Truck Invasion and the La Hora Loca Party at 5 p.m., which will feature stilt walkers and the cake cutting ceremony of the Pembroke Pines 10-foot birthday cake.

Tickets to the concert are $22.50-$75. Advance ticket sales are available only through Ticketmaster at Ticketmaster.com , by phone at1-800-745-3000 and at Ticketmaster outlets. On the day of the show, tickets are available at the Pembroke Pines City Center box office 90 minutes before the show.
