Fort Lauderdale, FL – One feline and ten Chihuahuas were all transferred to the Humane Society of Broward this week and if only they could talk to tell us their heartbreaking stories.

The tiger stripped feline, affectionately named “Love Bug” is approximately a year old and has suffered burns on nearly 40% of her face.  When she was originally picked up in Pompano Beach by Broward County Animal Care and Control officials, they said she smelled like motor oil, so it is possible she was burned by crawling under a car or in a car engine to escape the blazing sun and heat.  She received her initial exam at BCAC and will continue her care at the Humane Society of Broward County.

Pets in need

With a combined weight of 24 pounds, three of the Chihuahuas are now homeless after their beloved owner passed away.  The trio were rescued by Broward County Animal Care officers and then transferred to the HSBC.  Honey 7, Freddie 9 and Oreo 10 are sweet, affectionate and ready to be part of a family again.

The remaining Chihuahuas were surrendered because the owner had “too many pets.” The HSBC and another rescue stepped in to assist BCAC with the pint sized dogs ranging in age from 5 – 10 years.  Humane Society veterinarians spent the last two days performing medical exams and vaccinating each dog.  Comprehensive medical reports have been documented so adopters and their veterinarians will have this needed information.  The dogs are a little shy, but with lots of love they are sure to blossom and be forever grateful for getting a second chance.

All the Chihuahuas and Love Bug are available for adoption now.

The Humane Society of Broward County is a private, non-profit organization that is supported by people and companies who want to make a difference in the lives of homeless animals.  The shelter is not affiliated with any local or national organization with a similar name and does not receive tax dollars to operate.  To see who needs a home, learn about upcoming events or make a donation visit www.humanebroward.com

The Humane Society of Broward County and Broward County Animal Care and Adoptions partner to help animals in need.  However, they can only save more lives with the help of the community.
