FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – In 2012 the Humane Society of Broward County (HSBC) introduced our Adoption Ambassador program which is similar to foster care. Adoption Ambassadors provide temporary homes for select dogs, cats and even rabbits. The pets selected may have been overlooked while at the shelter, or were not adjusting well to the shelter environment. Their photos remain on the HSBC website, but they stay with their foster families until they are adopted.

To bring awareness to this fabulous program and the pets that are waiting for their forever homes, the HSBC is hosting “Foster Frenzy Pet Adoptions” for the entire month of July. Anyone who adopts a pet that is part of our Ambassador foster program in July will pay half the regular adoption fee. A feline foster would be $12.50 and a canine foster would be $50.00. In addition, the adopter will receive a $50 gift card to the HSBC Pet Boutique (will be mailed to adopter two weeks after the adoption is complete) and the first 10 adopters will receive a bottle of Dogtails dog shampoo. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, preliminary vaccinations, heartworm test for dogs, feline leukemia test for cats, a microchip, a bag of Purina ONE pet food and a 10 day follow up care courtesy of VCA Animal Hospitals.

Because Adoption Ambassador foster families open up their homes to these foster animals and spend lots of time with them, they will be able to share with potential adopters what the pet likes and their personality. In addition, many of the families have worked with the dogs to teach them proper manners…it will be up to the adopter to continue their education.

So… if you are interested in adopting one of the HSBC’s foster pets, please visit our website at www.humanebroward.com and go to the “Adopt” tab. As you scroll through the photos you will see the pets that are part of this amazing program labeled “In a Foster Home”. To arrange a meet and greet, please call the shelter at 954.989.3977 ext. 6.

If you would like to become an Adoption Ambassador and help us save more animals visit the “Get Involved” tab on our website or call the program manager at 954.266.6839. Teens can also partner with a parent and earn their required high school community service hours. All food and supplies needed to care for the pet are provided to you. Becoming an Adoption Ambassador is a wonderful opportunity for animal lovers to give back to the community, and help even more pets find the loving families they deserve.

The Humane Society of Broward County is a private, non-profit organization supported by donations from companies and people who want to help us help the homeless animals. The Adoption Ambassador program is made possible by support from the Mary N. Porter Designated Fund, David W. Leonard Fund, Francis and Bessie McDwyer Fund, and Helen Victoria Foote Fund of the Community Foundation of Broward.
