Finding Rover saves lost dogs!FORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- Broward County Animal Care and the Humane Society of Broward County have joined forces with the Finding Rover mobile app company to bring free, real-time facial recognition technology to pet owners throughout Broward County.

The technology will allow residents to utilize the Finding Rover app to identify a dog or help find their lost dog.

The app features a special lost and found notification system that is easy to use. If a dog has been found, the finder can use the app to take a picture of the dog and upload the photo to the app. Once the photo of the pet has been recognized through Finding Rover’s facial recognition software, the finder will receive information on how to notify the pet’s owner.

As part of the effort, both shelters will automatically upload and integrate information from their database into the Finding Rover system. By doing so, a resident in search of their dog can utilize the technology to help find their pet.

Additionally, every dog that leaves either shelter will already be pre-registered in the Finding Rover database. Once adopted, the new pet owner can register with Finding Rover. At that point, all of their pets’ information will conveniently be transferred to the new app account. If their dog ever becomes lost from home, they can use the Finding Rover Facial Recognition software to help identify the pet.

“With the Finding Rover app, a smartphone suddenly becomes a powerful tool in the effort to reunite pets with their families,” said Thomas Adair, assistant director, Broward County Animal Care and Adoption Division. “Implementation of technologies such as Finding Rover, make it possible for Broward County Animal Care and Adoption to further its objective of reducing shelter intake and reuniting lost dogs with their pet parents.”

According to Mary Steffen, Senior VP of Operations at the Humane Society of Broward County, “We are excited to be working with BCAC and Finding Rover to add another layer of security for the dogs of Broward County.”

The Finding Rover app can be downloaded on any Apple or Android device. The app can also be accessed at www.FindingRover.com.
