With a “Fiesta on the Green” theme, this year’s highly successful, sold-out tournament was presented by AutoNation. Over $161,000 was raised for the shelter and its services.

Players enjoyed a pre-tournament dinner and cocktail party at the home of Marti and Wayne Huizenga. For an added bit of fun, those attending from out of town and staying at the Riverside Hotel were transported to the party by water taxi. At the dinner, guests had the unique opportunity to purchase beautiful custom jewelry from Pamela Huizenga Jewelry, who generously donated a portion of the sales back to PAWS.

Aside from some fabulously fun – yet competitive – golf, the two-day tournament included a silent auction and two Hole in One chances to win a luxury car lease, courtesy of AutoNation. Prizes were also awarded for course contests including Closest to the Pin, Closest to the Line, and Longest Drive. On opening day, players enjoyed stopping at the Nacho Bizness food truck, located on the course, for great tacos and quesadillas, befitting the Fiesta theme. And always with health and prevention in mind, Holy Cross Hospital hosted the Mole Patrol, which provided for a doctor onsite offering free skin checks both days. Mobile adoptions took place throughout the event, with two adorable puppies finding their forever homes!

A live auction was held on Monday evening, conducted by special auctioneers “The Three Amigas” -- Paige Hyatt, Ginny Miller and Jorj Morgan. Items offered included a Harbor Island trip, an exclusive progressive dinner at three private homes, a great vacation package at the majestic Waterfall Club in Georgia, a girl’s golf getaway at the exclusive Frederica Golf Club, and a private dinner at the Mermaid Bar located at Neiman Marcus Fort Lauderdale. Guests also purchased special pinata centerpieces, which were cleverly decorated and filled with exciting prizes by the PAWS on the Green committee members. .
A sentimental highlight of the first night was a special heartfelt celebration ceremony in memory of two amazing committee members who gave of their time and talent to PAWS every year - Doreen Koenig and Jeannie Pohlman. Two beautiful stone benches were unveiled and will have a permanent home at Grande Oaks Golf Club in their honor.

After another day of golf, day two wrapped up with an awards luncheon. Overall Net winners were Annette Yarborough, Francesca Dawson, Joanne Newcomb and Barbara Wall. The Overall Gross winners were Pat Case, Karen Hale, Ann Fulginiti and Maria Marino. Prizes also went to the team with the best-decorated golf carts – awarded to Melody Saleh, Tammy Tubandt, Cherie Marshall and Jan Joyce; and for the most spirited team - Bren Souers, D'Lana Nixon, Jeanne Crane and Suzette MacInnis.

A prize drawing was held during the luncheon for Sterling Silver Golf Ball Earrings with Pink Opal and Rainbow Moonstone, and a Single Row Bracelet with Sterling Silver Golf Balls and Rose Quartz, generously donated by Pamela Huizenga Jewelry. The delighted lucky winner was Lynn Sobocinski.

PAWS and the HSBC extend a special thanks to all of the committee members and volunteers whose time, energy and dedication helped to make the 17th Annual PAWS on the Green such a huge success!
