FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – On May 1, 2015 the Humane Society of Broward County and Broward County Animal Care & Adoption introduced “Mission Catpossible” a collaborative spay/neuter project for felines residing in 11 targeted zip codes. The goal….to sterilize 4,000 cats from these specific areas by May 1, 2016.
The Mission has been completed, two months ahead of schedule and today – Friday March 4, 2016 – the 4,000th cat was brought to the HSBC to be sterilized.
Felines residing in zip codes: 33009, 33021, 33023, 33024, 33025, 33060, 33314, 33315, 33317, 33324, 33325 were spayed or neutered at no cost and those old enough received a free rabies vaccination.
“By sterilizing these cats it will have a direct impact on the number of cats born in these areas and we hope to see a decrease in the number of cats surrendered” said HSBC Senior Vice President Mary Steffen.
The Humane Society of Broward County continues to operate a low-cost spay/neuter service for the public who want to have their pets sterilized. Appointments are necessary and to schedule an appointment call 954-463-SPAY (7729) or email spayneuter@hsbroward.com. Vaccinations, microchipping and testing are available for a fee.
