FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Children’s Home Society of Florida will present its highest honor, the 2016 R. David and I. Lorraine Thomas Child Advocate of the Year award, to Lucille DeAngelo, a member of the organization’s Board of Directors and second-time president of the East Broward Auxiliary. The award will be presented during the organization’s 15th annual HTLA event on April 14 at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 in Fort Lauderdale.

Lucille has been a friend of Children’s Home Society of Florida since 1988 as a co-founder of the East Broward Auxiliary and long –time member of the Board of Directors.  She recognized the great need for children in Broward County to have a home that was filled with love and worked tirelessly to ensure they were given one.  Following a successful fundraising campaign including a black-tie event, the I. Lorraine Thomas Children’s Home and Family Support Center opened its doors in 1992 and continues to be a loving place for children and families in Broward County today.

“Lucille has proven herself to be a true advocate for our community’s most vulnerable, the children,” said Julie Schneider, executive director of Children’s Home Society of Florida. “We are beyond grateful for her dedication to our organization and are honored, absolutely honored, to present her our 2016 award.”

The accolade is presented to individuals and groups who have made an exceptional contribution toward the well-being of children. One recipient is selected annually from each of the 15 divisions of Children’s Home Society of Florida.
