Dramatic, epic, and awesome are the best descriptors of Felix Mendelssohn's masterpiece, Elijah. Scored for eight vocal soloists, full orchestra and massive chorus, Elijah depicts the most dramatic scenes of the Old Testament: a contest of gods between Elijah and the followers of Baal, the gift of rain to a drought-ridden Israel and the final scene, when the prophet ascends to heaven on a fiery chariot. The Master Chorale welcomes the Lynn Philharmonia in celebrating the 150th anniversary of this astounding musical achievement.
