The School Board of Broward County, Florida today, November 22, elected Ann Murray (District 1) Chair and Laurie Rich Levinson (District 6), Vice Chair. The nominations and voting took place during the School Board's annual organizational meeting.

Murray joined the School Board in 2008 as District 1 schools representative. She has resided at her Hollywood address in the District she represents for over 40 years. Murray began her career with the Broward County Public Schools in 1970 where she worked her way through the ranks in the Transportation Department. She also served as a Broward Teachers Union Shop Steward and Federation of Public Employees Shop Steward. Murray currently serves on the Board of Directors, Broward Regional Health Planning Council, City of Hollywood General Obligation Bond Oversight Committee and the Broward Democratic Executive Committee.

Levinson was elected in 2010 as District 6 School Board member. A lifelong South Florida resident, she has been a parent activist in Broward County for over 15 years, involved at the school, area and district levels. She is a former chair of the Central Area Advisory Council and served as Gifted Advisory Council corresponding secretary and member of the District Advisory Council. Levinson also was a School Advisory Forum chair and served on the School Advisory Council at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
