Thursday night, the GLBX (Gay and Lesbian Business Exchange) of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce held its fourth annual Business Community Ally Awards.
The event recognizes and highlights individuals and corporate entities successfully doing business with the LGBT+ community, defining and implementing diversity and inclusion policies, and supporting worthy related causes.
Mayor Dean Trantalis welcomed the honorees at the Galleria event and touted Fort Lauderdale’s reputation as an inclusive community. “I am more than proud because, as a community, we are here in a unified fashion to celebrate some of our brightest citizens, who, through their daily contributions, uplift our LGBTQ+ community and our dynamic business community. Greater Fort Lauderdale is evolving into a world-class destination that proudly welcomes all to our shores, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, or any other qualities that make a person who they are. In recent years, our City and its neighboring communities have become one of the most visited areas for LGBTQ+ tourism on the planet,” said Trantalis.
Commissioner Glassman was honored with the Visionary Award.
Commissioner Glassman “has proven to be a great leader for all the people, including the LGBTQ community,” said Michael Goodman of Goodman PR, one of the sponsors of the event. “He serves as a role model by effectively leading to ensure we have a thriving business community and a satisfying quality of life for those who live and work here.”
Commissioner Glassman thanked the GLBX Board for the honor and said, “during my service on the Commission, obviously, I always try so hard to do what’s right, not just for my district, but for the entire City, but also to champion causes that are important to me. LGBTQ issues are definitely important. It’s a very thriving part of our community. They contribute so much to the City of Fort Lauderdale.”
