Fort Lauderdale, Florida – All students want to start the school year looking their best, however, for some students in foster care who are limited to extremely tight budgets, what would make them feel equal among their peers are beyond their reach.

“Just like any teen, our kids like to pick out their own bookbags, get their hair and nails done, or find that special pair of sneakers. It's part of feeling normal,” said Tiffani Dhooge, President/CEO of Children’s Harbor, a nationally accredited nonprofit agency with a mission to provide a safe harbor and support to at risk children, youth and families, keeping brothers and sisters together, strengthening families and guiding youth towards independence. “Teens like to go to the store and choose for themselves what they feel comfortable with. That process is really important to them. This gets them ready and excited about the new year, which ultimately helps set them up for success.”

Children’s Harbor has launched a back-to-school campaign for teens, accepting gift cards that will be used to purchase their own backpacks, clothes, shoes and salon services including hair and nails.

Children’s Harbor is also looking for partners to underwrite a back-to-school party, a field trip to Rapids Waterpark in Riviera Beach and a party at the park for its Family Strengthening Team which receives no funding for its activities. The organization is always collecting arts and crafts supplies for life groups and therapists.
