broward schoolsBroward County Public Schools (BCPS), the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance and South Florida TechGateway are among select school districts and organizations from across the nation featured during the 2017 Computer Science for All (CSforAll) Summit.  The event, which was organized by the CSforAll Consortium, took place October 16-17, 2017, and included computer science educators, researchers and industry leaders dedicated to providing inclusive, rigorous and sustainable computer science education for all students.

During the CSforAll Summit, BCPS was highlighted for its strong commitment to computer science education and for increasing industry partnerships. In 2017/18, through its #BrowardCODES initiative, the District is partnering with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, South Florida TechGateway and other local businesses to increase awareness about computer science career pathways. TechGateway Day, highlighting local career opportunities, will be a central part of the District’s Computer Science Education Week 2017 (December 4 – 10) celebrations. In addition, Hour of Code activities, which take place at all 234 schools, will include industry participation with at least 60 schools. The combined activities during Computer Science Education Week will impact more than 271,000 students.

“Our District is proud to be a national leader for ensuring all students have access to computer science opportunities in school,” said BCPS Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. “Our partnerships with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, South Florida TechGateway and local industries help us prepare our students for the 21st century workforce and increase their awareness about high-wage, in-demand computer science career opportunities available in South Florida.  Through these partnerships, we are ensuring what our students are learning in school translates into skills they can use and build upon for their futures.”

“Broward County Public Schools is a state and national leader in preparing students for careers in technology. The Alliance is proud to partner with BCPS for TechGateway day, educating our students about South Florida tech companies and inspiring the next generation of homegrown technology talent. We’re thrilled that this partnership will be highlighted nationally at the CSforAll Summit,” said Bob Swindell, President/CEO of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, Broward County’s official economic development partnership.
