FORT LAUDERDALE, FL  – More than 700 volunteers came out to participate in United Way of Broward County’s 26th Annual Day of Caring on Wednesday, November 29th. Volunteers gathered in teams at the BB&T Center in Sunrise to help prepare 300,000 meals for Broward County residents who are in need of food due to financial hardships or other circumstances. The packed meals were then delivered to 25 local food banks through United Way of Broward County’s food distribution program Project Lifeline.

The 26th Annual Day of Caring began with a Welcome Ceremony from Kathleen Cannon, President/CEO of United Way of Broward County who thanked all of the volunteers and sponsors for their support, and then Ken Hetlage, Executive Vice President of West Operations for Memorial Healthcare System, addressed the volunteers about how important it is to give back to the community. The 700 volunteers were made up from more than 30 companies in Broward County. Participating companies included Memorial Healthcare System, Ultimate Software, Grant Thornton, Publix, Balfour Beatty Construction, FHP Manufacturing and the Florida Panthers.
