FORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- March 2, 2018--BECON-TV (Broward Education Communications Network) WBEC-TV a nonprofit, noncommercial television station owned and operated by the School Board of Broward County announced the twenty participating teams and broadcast schedule for the eighth season of School Duel, presented by Chick-fil-A and BrightStar Credit Union. School Duel is designed to reward and showcase intellectual talent in South Florida's high schools, as well as serve as a positive educational tool for students.

The 2018 high schools participating in the televised rounds are; Western HS, Nova HS, M.S. Douglas HS, J.P. Taravella HS, Cypress Bay HS, West Broward HS, Deerfield Beach HS, Cooper City HS, Coral Springs HS and Monarch HS from Broward County. Dade County participating schools are Ransom Everglades HS, John Ferguson HS, Miami Palmetto HS, School for the AD Studies, Florida Christian; and the Palm Beach County schools are Suncoast HS, Spanish River HS, Somerset Canyons HS, Jupiter HS and Park Vista High School.

The eighth season of School Duel airs every Thursday at 7:00 p.m. on BECON-TV. Repeat airings take place on Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. and Sundays at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. The Championship match will air on Thursday, May 31st, 2018. BECON-TV reaches homes throughout Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties on Comcast and Advanced Cable (channel 19), DirecTV, DISH Network and AT&T U-Verse (channel 63). BECON-TV reaches a potential audience of over 5.5 million people across the tri-county area.

The entire season will be rebroadcast, in chronological order, during the summer and the following fall in preparation for next season's show.

This season, the players on the winning team will each receive $1,000 from sponsors, Chick-fil-A and BrightStar Credit Union, championship trophies from EDCO Awards and Specialties, prizes from Publix Supermarkets, gifts certificates from Sparez Bowling, Xtreme Action Park, Museum of Discovery and Science. The 2018 season of School Duel is also supported by participating sponsors; PowerSource Motorspots Speed Shop in Oakland Park, McFatter Technical College, FlashBack Diner and Del Vecchio’s Pizza Loft in Davie, Random Source & Hinson and Schakolad  Chocolate Factory in Ft. Lauderdale, Bogart’s American Kitchen and DunkinDonuts in Cooper City, , Clubflyers in Miami and Make-up by Paulette. The School Duel web site, (www.schoolduel.tv), powered by BrightStar Credit Union, allows viewers the chance to compete in online contests, win prizes and much more.
