FORT LAUDERDALE –  The 2018-19 Broward Center Classical Series promises to enchant audience members with concerts celebrating scores from blockbuster movies while also stirring their emotions with classical masterworks performed by internationally renowned musicians.

Performed at the Broward Center and Parker Playhouse, the series features tributes to the silver screen when Disney in Concert: Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas is shown with a live orchestra and the Boston Pops on Tour with Keith Lockhart share the joy and genius of movie scores by John Williams. Concerts by The Vienna Boys Choir and the Brussels Philharmonic round out the series with moving performances by the world’s greatest composers including Beethoven, Mozart, Strauss and Prokofiev.

The series begins with the holiday treat of Disney in Concert: Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas in the Au-Rene Theater on Thursday, December 13 at 8 p.m. Burton’s haunting holiday classic is screened as South Florida Symphony Orchestra performs Grammy® Award-winning composer Danny Elfman’s score. Nominated for an Academy® Award for best visual effects and a Golden Globe® winner for Best Original Score, this animated fan favorite follows Jack Skellington, Halloweentown’s pumpkin king, as he accidentally stumbles on Christmastown and plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over the role.  But Jack soon discovers even the best-laid plans of mice and skeleton men can go seriously awry. Having celebrated his twentieth anniversary as Boston Pops Conductor in 2015, Keith Lockhart is the second longest-tenured conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra since its founding in 1885.
