Honoring Amada Clark and Sarah Lihan
LYC's own Sarah Lihan and her skipper Amanda Clark are currently ranked number one in the World and will represent the United States in the 470 class at the 2012 Olympic Games this summer.
You will not want to miss the exciting video of the girls racing the 470 with Sarah full out on the trapeze. You will hear the girls describe their experience winning the United States Olympic Trials, and their intensive training regimen and regatta schedule leading up to the Games.
Sarah grew up sailing at Lauderdale Yacht Club and went on to graduate from Yale as a valued member of the Yale Sailing Team.

Williford, Friesecke win 29er Midwinter East Regatta
Christopher Williford and and Kai Friesecke raced their 29er on Biscayne Bay last weekend, winning the Midwinter East Championship. The conditions were quite windy with velocities over 20 knots on Saturday and Sunday. They sailed hard, and bested the seven-boat fleet with six bullets in eight races. An added benefit to their victory was that they have now qualified for the U.S. Sailing Development Team, designed for younger sailing athletes on the Olympic path. Congratulations to Christopher and Kai.
College sailing back under way for the spring season
While the northern collegiate sailboats continue to slumber under a blanket of snow, the southern schools have begun to get back to racing.
Garner Tullis -- SEISA In-conference -- Tulane – Co-ed
Alec Payne skippered the second A division boat for Tulane to a fourth place finish in the nine-boat fleet. Along the way she picked up her first bullet as a collegiate skipper. The Tulane second team finished fifth overall.
2012 Harris Kemper Memorial – SEISA – Intersectional – Co-ed
24 races completed (12 A, 12 B) under sunny skies, northeast wind 12-18 knots, 40 degrees warming to the high 50s. Two capsizes and seven protests were submitted and heard. Special thanks to Dan Dalgleish and Laura Stamets for running all the races and several general recalls. Thanks also go to the entire TAMUG sailing team for arriving early and staying late to ensure all boats functional and/or repaired.
Alec Payne crewed all of the races in A division placing eighth out of 13 boats. They stayed close enough that with a strong showing by the B division boat, Tulane finished second overall.
