Last Saturday several LYC juniors travelled to Coconut Grove to compete in the 40th iteration of the Florida State Junior Snipe Championship. In most years this regatta has primarily been adult Snipe owners turning over the helms of their boats to a junior skipper and serving as crew for their young driver. Now it is more common to find two juniors making up the crew.
Six races were conducted by Coconut Grove Sailing Club on the waters of Biscayne Bay. Mac and Nikki dominated the regatta, taking bullets in four of the six races, and after dropping a 4th, they finished with 7 points. Joining them on the podium were fellow LYC juniors Christopher Williford and Wade Waddell who, once they got the hang of the Snipe finished the last three races 2-2-1 which elevated them to third, just one point out of second. Other Lauderdale participants included Duncan Williford in seventh, Kai Friesecke and Lizzy Ryder in ninth and Grant Dixon in thirteenth. Congratulations to the kids.
