The West Broward High School Student Organization of Anatomy and Physiology (S.O.A.P) hosts its 4th Annual DiaBEAT THIS! – students and staff basketball tournament – on Thursday, March 5, 2015, from 5:30 – 9 p.m., at West Broward High School, 500 NW 209th Avenue, Pembroke Pines. The tournament’s aims to raise $9,000 to benefit the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation and increase awareness about the epidemic of obesity and diabetes.
This year’s event includes participation by students and staff teams from Western High and West Broward High schools competing in a basketball game, along with entertainment and performances by the cheering squads, dance teams, drumlines, guard dancers and the American Sign Language students. The Miami HEAT Dancers are scheduled to make a special guest appearance.
Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, as a partner and sponsor for this year’s fundraiser and awareness event, will also provide parents and students with educational information on diabetes, obesity and various topics to help teens to live and stay healthy.
Attendees will be eligible for prizes, including an array of gift cards, movie passes and spa packages.
