The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) released the 2014/15 passing rates for the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) Algebra I End of Course Exam and Grade 10 English Language Arts assessment.

Over the past three years, the results for Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) show:

• The percentage of students passing the required Algebra I and English Language Arts assessments has increased each year.  In fact, BCPS is the only district, among the five largest districts in Florida, to show increases in both subject areas across the past three years.   

• The passing rates for the Algebra I End of Course Exam are consistently higher than the state average.

• The passing rates for the Grade 10 English Language Arts assessment continue to increase, and in 2015, for the first time, are higher than the state average.

This was the first administration of the Algebra I and Grade 10 English Language Arts assessments under the new Florida Standards. To date, the state has only released information related to students passing the tests, which are required for high school graduation. Individual scores and achievement levels are not expected until December 2015, after the state completes its standards setting process.  

Parents and guardians will be able to login to the District’s Virtual Counselor as of July 9, 2015, to find out whether their child passed the Algebra I End of Course Exam or Grade 10 English Language Arts assessment.  They can also contact their child’s high school for this information.

“Our students, teachers and staff work hard throughout the school year, and we are proud of their efforts as demonstrated by these results,” said Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert W. Runcie.  “This past year, we experienced a tremendous amount of change with the new Florida Standards and Assessments. We look forward to working with the state during its upcoming standards setting process, and also continuing to work with lawmakers in Tallahassee to ensure our students receive the best education in the nation.”
