FORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- United Way of Broward County hosted the 4th Annual Rock United Battle of the Bands contest on Friday, September 25th at Revolution Live.  The rock n’ roll filled evening raised $17,000 for local community initiatives. Additional funds were raised throughout the evening from the “Text to Donate” initiative that will provide 5,700 meals for our neighbors in need. More than 500 music fans attended the popular annual event that featured local corporate bands competing to win the Battle of the Bands. Kavita Channe, Sports & Entertainment Host and Broadcaster with VIP TV, Fox Sports Florida, served as emcee for the event.

This year, five bands battled it out on stage including Rock Candy, a band comprised of attorneys, who was crowned the winner of Rock United.  LLP from Shutts & Bowen was named runner-up in the competition while The EXECutioners, comprised of members from the Executives’ Association of Fort Lauderdale, took home the award for Best Cover Song.  Judges from the music industry critiqued the bands based on creativity/originality, musicianship, stage presence/crowd interaction, appearance and personality. The Associates from JM Family Enterprises, Inc. were voted Fan Favorite of the night having garnered the most votes during the event on Facebook and Twitter that used the hashtag #RockUnited.  

“United Way of Broward County is very thankful to have so many amazing community members rock out with us for one special night,” said Kathleen Cannon, President/CEO of United Way of Broward County. “The money raised from this event will help many lives in Broward County and provide meals for those in need. We love being able to combine fun events with great causes!” 

The good times rocked and rolled all night long as bands played the audience’s favorites songs. Decades of music were represented and the stage was graced with amazing talent.  Rock United sponsors included JM Family Enterprises, Inc., Southeast Toyota Distributors, Publix Super Markets, Consolidated Credit, Memorial Healthcare System, Holman Automotive Group, Nova Southeastern University, Revolution LIVE, Broward 100, AutoNation, Duree & Company and Recovery Unplugged Treatment Center.
