Congratulations to the Broward County Council of PTAs (BCCPTA) for being selected as a regional winner for the Florida Department of Education/Florida Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Family and Community Involvement Award.

The BCCPTA is recognized for successful implementation of its Clothing Bank and Family Support Program.  In an effort to address the need for clothing, especially school uniforms, the BCCPTA manages two clothing banks to serve Broward County Public Schools families. In addition to providing clothing, the BCCPTA hosts charitable events that encourage parental engagement and facilitate community awareness.

“The Clothing Bank and Family Support Program provides families with the information and tools to address needs and resolve problems,” said BCPS Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. “We are extremely proud of the dedicated team of volunteers who support this program with donations, partnerships and thousands of hours of volunteer time.”

Each year, the Family and Community Involvement Award recognizes exemplary family and community involvement programs from across the state that focus on welcoming families into the school community, providing effective communication, supporting student success and promoting collaboration among stakeholders.

Florida Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart and Florida PTA President Mindy Haas will recognize BCCPTA representatives at the 2016 Florida PTA Leadership Conference breakfast scheduled for Saturday, July 16, 2016, at the Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida. More information is available online at the Florida Department of Education’s website, www.fldoe.org.
