The Office of Professional Standards (OPS) of the City of Fort Lauderdale serves as the central intake point for employees and the public to report incidents and complaints.  OPS then facilitates the appropriate referral or handling of such reports.

The OPS Mission
The Office of Professional Standards was created to foster and maintain a work environment where Respect, Integrity, Courage, Teamwork, Service, Creativity and Accountability are paramount.

Conflict Resolution / Mediation
OPS assists in identifying and resolving problems at the earliest possible stage to foster improved communication and teamwork between employees.  The department also seeks to investigate and resolve conflicts among residents to enhance the City’s overall level of customer service.

Ethics and Professional Standards
To supplement existing state law and City policies, OPS implemented a new Code of Professional Conduct that applies to all City employees.  OPS also provides guidance to City employees about appropriate behavior and ethical conduct and investigates complaints made by the public.

Fairness
OPS considers fairness issues to promote an environment and culture within the City that is fair and equitable and founded on principles of mutual respect.

Can OPS maintain confidentiality?
Yes.  If you would prefer to remain anonymous, you can make a confidential incident report or complaint to OPS in accordance with Florida statutes. Reporting an incident or complaint with OPS will not jeopardize your employment with the City or your status as a resident.
