Fort Lauderdale, FL – More than 6,000 cookie boxes sold!  Girl Scout Troop 12512 from Fort Lauderdale, who has 12 members ranging in age from 7 – 10 years, used proceeds from their cookie sales as a donation to the Humane Society of Broward County.  They made the $1,500 donation during the shelter’s match appeal, so it will be matched dollar for dollar.

According to troop leader Angie Nelson, “Each year our troop votes on a community focus.  The girls are very passionate about ‘Animals in Need’ so this year our activities have focused on supporting that.  They did a beach clean-up so the sea animals won’t ingest trash and visited the Sea Turtle Hospital.  For our four-legged friends they made dog toys and bandanas for the dogs at the Humane Society of Broward County. We have always donated half our cookie proceeds to charity and this year the girls voted and decided to give half of the $3,000 to the Humane Society and the other half to the Sea Turtle Hospital.  We are so proud of the hard work that our girls put in to cookie season, so that they can support great local organization like the HSBC.  We value teaching our troop members the importance of philanthropy and giving back.  We have found that customers sometimes buy more or donate just because of our community focus with the shelter.” 

Cookie sales took place from January 23 – February 16, 2020 and the girls sold cookies at various Publix locations, local churches, restaurants and to the loyal cookie customers.  The total numbered sold is more than in their zoom photo, with a total of 7,465 boxes sold!
