FT. LAUDERDALE (January 18, 2012) -- The Cultural Foundation of Broward (CFB) is pleased to announce the appointment of three new Board members: Eris Sandler, Market President for BankUnited, Juliet Murphy Roulhac, Regional Manager for External Affairs for FPL and Michael Caldwell, Professor of Music and Director of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences’ Division of Performing and Visual Arts at Nova Southeastern University, to its Board of Directors.
 
The Cultural Foundation of Broward is designed to provide financial support beyond the means of public funding to enhance The Cultural Division of Broward programs, services, advocacy and education to individual artists and cultural arts organizations. The not-for-profit organization engages business and business leaders to advocate and educate about the importance of the County’s art and cultural community as well as to recognize the connection between cultural vitality, creative success, and economic development.

Eris Sandler is Market President for BankUnited’s North Broward, Palm Beach and Treasure Coast branches. Sandler joined BankUnited after spending five years as regional president of Colonial Bank/BB&T’s Retail Banking Division.  She previously held leadership positions in the branch and retail divisions of Regions Bank, SouthTrust, BankAtlantic and Barnett Bank.  During her 25-year career she has held positions in retail sales and product development, credit, wealth management and commercial lending.   Active in the local community, Sandler is also a member of the board of directors of Kids in Distress and Young at Art Children’s Museum.  She has shared her time and talents with the Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, the Urban League of Broward County and Robert Morris Associates.
 
Juliet Murphy Roulhac is the Regional Manager for External Affairs for Florida Power & Light Company in Broward County. A lawyer by training, she was previously a Complex Litigation and Appellate Lawyer in the Office of the General Counsel at Florida Power & Light Company. Ms. Roulhac has a longstanding commitment to professional and community service. Her current activities include leadership in and service on the Florida Bar Board of Governors, the University of Florida Board of Trustees, and the United Way Legal Cabinet, to name a few. Her prior professional and community activities include service on the Federal Judicial Nominating Commission for the Southern District, the University of Florida Law Center Association - Board of Trustees, past Vice-Chair and member of Center One - Board of Directors, past Chair, Mt. Olive Gardens Apartments - Board of Directors, FLMIC - Board of Directors, and past President
of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women - Dade County Club (NANBPW). She also volunteers pro bono hours to her local community. Ms. Roulhac received a Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida. She is member of the Florida Bar and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District and the Middle District.
 
Michael Caldwell, D.M.A., is a concert pianist, respected music educator, arts administrator, and arts advocate, who currently serves as a Professor of Music and Director of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences’ Division of Performing and Visual Arts at Nova Southeastern University.  A 1990 Pianist Foundation of America "Pianist of the Year," Caldwell has appeared in concert on four continents as a U.S. Artistic Ambassador to countries in South America, Europe, the Middle and Near East, and Africa, under the auspices of the U.S. Information Agency, in a position created by President Ronald Reagan. In 1995, he was the national committee chair for diversity for the College Music Society, a William Grant Still National Symposium Fellow, and he served as a panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts American Music Recording Project. In 1999, he was one of three pianists selected to perform at the Ivan Davis Tribute at Festival Miami. In 2004, he made his 21st Century debut in South Florida with a multimedia update of the piano recital, “Music of Magic, Mystery, and Romance” in the Ralph R. Bailey Concert Hall, where he returned on April 22, 2007, to appear as piano soloist with the Broward Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto.  In 2010, he appeared as piano soloist with the Ars Flores Symphony, performing George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” at the Miramar Cultural Center and Lincoln Theatre. Michael’s civic experience has included symphony orchestra, cultural theater, music academy, and library board memberships in New Mexico, North Carolina, and Tennessee. He received his undergraduate and master’s degrees in music from the University of Miami and his Doctor of Musical Arts degree and highest graduate honors from the University of Arizona at Tucson.
