FLORIDA – Pollo Tropical® is dialing up a tasty deal for a great cause, benefitting Women In Distress℠. Florida's famous chicken-on-the-grill restaurant chain is hoping to collect 2,000 phones FROM 10:30 AM TO CLOSE AT ALL COMPANY OWNED FLORIDA RESTAURANTS on Wednesday, March 14 for Women In Distress by offering customers a free Shrimp or Chicken Quesadilla Wrap for each phone donated. There is no limit on the number of phones customers can donate or the number of wraps they can receive – each phone is good for a free
wrap. The phones do not have to be in working order. They simply need to have a battery. All makes and models will be accepted.
The campaign is called "Handhelds for Handhelds" and was created by Pollo Tropical in 2010 to help Women In Distress collect cell phones that they refurbish so those in distress may dial "911"
to receive assistance. Mobile phones that cannot be refurbished are recycled for parts to help fund much-needed programs and services including an emergency shelter, crisis hotline, advocacy programs and outreach initiatives to raise awareness of domestic abuse.
Customers may enjoy their choice of either the Shrimp or Chicken Quesadilla Wrap. The hot pressed wraps feature a choice of shrimp or chicken plus melted cheddar jack cheese, freshly- chopped tomatoes, and a tangy chipotle dressing - all on an 8.5-inch flatbread that is finished on the grill press. Guests may mix and match quesadillas if donating multiple phones.
"Thanks to all our fans and even new friends of Pollo Tropical, last year we collected over 1,500 cell phones," said Kim Miller, Vice President of Marketing & Communications at
Pollo Tropical. "This year our goal is to collect even more phones and to encourage that we are offering more choices as part of our 'Handheld for a Handheld' effort."
"Women In Distress is incredibly honored to partner with Pollo Tropical for this third annual fundraiser," said Mary Riedel, President & CEO of Women In Distress. "This simple program has
raised a record-breaking number of phones for our organization and has helped countless individuals."
