In preparation for the South Runway Expansion Project, the existing South Runway (9R27L), which primarily handles general aviation aircraft, will close at 10 p.m., Tuesday, April 17. This will have limited impact to passengers on large commercial airlines. Smaller general aviation and commuter aircraft that use the South Runway will now operate on the main North Runway. During periods of heavy demand, flights may use the Crosswind Runway in addition to the North Runway.
The South Runway must close to allow construction crews to build the structures over Federal Highway and the FEC Railroad tracks. The new South Runway is expected to reopen in late 2014.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is a service of the Broward County Board of County Commissioners.
