Fort Lauderdale Federal Courthouse

Fort Lauderdale - The City of Fort Lauderdale received outstanding news today from United States Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) when he announced $190 million in federal funding to rebuild the Fort Lauderdale Federal Courthouse.  According to Senator Nelson, the funding was included in the spending package that the Senate is expected to vote on later this week.

"We would like to thank Senator Nelson for his leadership and commitment to our community," said Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean J. Trantalis.  "We would also like to thank all of our federal officials and local leaders who spent a tremendous amount of time and effort working on this important project.  Once approved, this funding will provide a much-needed new facility for downtown Fort Lauderdale. It represents a significant investment in our future and will strengthen our position as a leading center for law in South Florida."

The General Services Administration, an independent agency of the United States government, estimated that a new courthouse would cost approximately $190 million, which Senator Nelson requested for both FY17 and FY18.
