Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – Freebee kicks off pilot program in Downtown Fort Lauderdale just in time for the special election, St. Patrick's Day Parade celebration and one of the most populated spring breaks anticipated for Fort Lauderdale in a long time.

The Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is partnering with Freebee—the on-demand door-to-door electric vehicle service—to implement a pilot program in Downtown Fort Lauderdale starting this month, in participation with the City of Fort Lauderdale. On March 12th Freebee plans to provide Freebee service to support locals participating in the City of Fort Lauderdale Special Election. Voters can head to the polls, free of charge, in a Freebee vehicle to cast votes on the Police and Parks bonds that promise safety and more green space throughout Fort Lauderdale.

The Fort Lauderdale pilot will start in mid-March and run three months into June—the first in Broward County! The Freebee service is already very successful in eight cities in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.

“We know that mobility improvements will require solutions at all levels, in many forms, and with key partnerships,” said Jenni Morejon, President and CEO of the DDA. “Bringing Freebee to the urban core is one more way to help residents, workers and visitors move around Downtown Fort Lauderdale without a personal vehicle.” Maps and info regarding the Freebee mobile app are available online at www.ridefreebee.com and are being distributed to the business community, civic and other organizations throughout downtown and across Fort Lauderdale. “We appreciate the City’s support and shared enthusiasm as we kick this off,” concluded Morejon.

The service will initially run in a 2.2 square mile area of downtown and will also be inclusive of sections of Las Olas Blvd and Sistrunk Blvd as well as Flagler Village, Victoria Park, Beverly Heights and Tarpon River neighborhoods. “For the pilot program we really tried to focus on the Downtown core while including sections of key surrounding neighborhoods,” said Jason Spiegel, Freebee Founder. “We also developed a radius map surrounding the Freebee perimeter map so residents and visitors can determine walk times from outside the initial Freebee perimeter area.”

“Being able to provide our downtown residents, workers and visitors with multiple options to get around our beautiful city is critical,” said Commissioner Steven Glassman of District 2, which covers the majority of the pilot area. “The Freebee pilot provides a free, on-demand mobility option for people living, working and enjoying our downtown,” concluded Glassman.

The Ride Freebee mobile app is a cutting-edge technology that has been fully operational since 2015. The Ride Freebee app is available in both the Apple Store and Google Play Store, for both iPhones and Android devices, and is accessible to anyone with either device. Four clicks of a button later, a rider can be connected with a driver instantly, without the need for a dispatch.
