As many in our community and throughout the world prepare to celebrate Passover and Easter, we are reminded of the deep symbolism these holidays represent -- triumph over oppression, salvation over death, and hope over despair.

While observances may take on new and unique appearances this year given the spread of the coronavirus, seeking ways to connect with one another to renew the bonds of family, friendship, and faith has never been more important.

As we continue to deal with the uncertainty and anxiety of the global pandemic, let this season of renewal and new beginnings inspire us to do our part to help each other through this difficult and challenging time. I encourage everyone to reach out to a friend, relative, or neighbor in need by offering a kind word, sending a thoughtful text or email, or making a timely phone call. By doing so, we can spread the messages embodied in these important holidays, while bringing much-needed comfort, support and reassurance to those who need it most.

On behalf of my colleagues on the Fort Lauderdale City Commission, our warmest wishes for a Passover and Easter that inspires us with hope, fills us with compassion, and unites us in our efforts to build a better, brighter tomorrow.
