FORT LAUDERDALE The Broward Center for the Performing Arts has announced its 2018-19 Dance Series featuring an illustrious roster of national and international companies offering classical and contemporary ballet as well as captivating modern dance.

The Broward Center will be host to modern dance as it presents the stunning dancers-illusionists of Momix and the complex patterns and rhythms of Paul Taylor Dance Company while Parker Playhouse features the stylish choreography and masterful storytelling of the Russian National Ballet and the turbo-charged comedic parodies from the burly ballerinas of Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo.

Direct from Moscow, the series begins at Parker Playhouse with the Russian National Ballet Theatre performing its stunning rendition of Swan Lake on Sunday, February 24 at 2 p.m. Among the world’s greatest love stories and the most revered in the classical ballet repertoire, Swan Lake offers an unforgettable evening of dance through the retelling of the fairytale story about a beautiful princess, a passionate prince and the evil spell that threatens their happiness together. Described by The Washington Post as “a cut above many of its rivals,” the troupe upholds the grand national tradition of the major Russian ballet works and developing new talents throughout Russia and will be celebrating 20 years of bringing timeless ballet classics to the stages of North America. Tickets ae $26.50-$56.50.

The trademark beauty, magic, fun, and imagination of Momix returns to the Amaturo Theater in a compilation of company favorites with Viva Momix on Wednesday and Thursday, February 27 and 28, at 7:30 p.m. Full of surprises, each work features unique costumes and props as energetic performers dance to a diverse musical score while Momix asks audiences to expect the unexpected and “sit back, enjoy the magic, and take in the optical confusion.” BroadwayWorld reported that the troupe is “notorious for consistently creating complex, dizzying universes and inviting the audience to join their new realities. And one thing is certain: Every ride is an incredible, unforgettable journey.” Tickets ae $49.50-$59.50.

Paul Taylor Dance Company presents its signature masterwork of American dance, “Esplanade,” in a program with two other works on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 19-20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater. Set to the music of Bach’s “Violin Concert No.2,” this one-of-a kind, fearlessly experimental performance transforms the simplicity of ordinary actions such as walking, running and skipping into an elaborate contemporary piece that captures the true essence of modern dance.  Heralded by The New York Times as “One of the most exciting, innovative, and delightful dance companies in the entire world,” Paul Taylor Dance Company continues to shape America’s original art of modern dance. These performances are generously supported by Funding  Arts Broward. Tickets are $49.50-$59.50.

The 2018-19 Dance Series returns to Parker Playhouse for a rousing finale with Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo on Sunday April 7 at 6 p.m. Toeing the line between high art and high camp, the Trocks, as they are known, is an international phenomenon of 16 all-male dancers who continue to perform parodies of famed ballet classics such as Swan Lake and Le Corsaire. Celebrating their 40th anniversary, these masterful dancers boast a wicked comedic sense of humor with respect for true classical dance. Delicately stuffed into tutus and man-sized toe-shoes, their humor is only outmatched by the dancers’ panache and technical prowess. The Seattle Times reported “The genius touch of the Trocks is that while the ballet’s stories and customs are, lovingly, played for laughs, the technique isn’t.” Tickets ae $37.50-$57.50.

Tickets are on sale now with a savings of 25 percent when purchasing tickets to all four dance events or 20 percent on three events and 15 percent on two events.
