Empress of the Fort Lauderdale Pet Paradise Resort presents a check for $10,000 to Mike Ruggieri, Director of Animal Care, for the New Black Bear Habitat at Flamingo Gardens.
DAVIE, FL - - Pet Paradise Resort in Davie, FL, recently named Flamingo Gardens as the recipient of $10,000 donation to help rescue a 600lb Black Bear named Josh. Flamingo Gardens is raising funds to build a new bear habitat to house the bear, which is due to open the end of June.
Josh, a 14 year old Black Bear that was rescued as a cub and cannot live in the wild, was removed from his former home when the facility lost its permit. Flamingo Gardens agreed to take the bear, and started construction on the new facility in March of 2013.
"We heard about the project through our Fort Lauderdale employees, many of whom are members or volunteer at Flamingo Gardens" explained Lisa Tarr, Director of Marketing for the corporation. "They wanted to help raise money for the Bear and we wanted to help too."
The 9 Pet Paradise Resorts throughout Florida collected $2607 in donations from customers and a bowling fundraiser. Those donations were matched by corporate funds, and Pet Paradise CEO Fred Goldsmith donated another $4800 to bring the total to $10,000.
"We are honored to have been selected by Pet Paradise for such a large gift" said Keith Clark, Managing Director of Flamingo Gardens. "Pet Paradise is committed to providing quality care for pets, and all animals, and I want to encourage Flamingo Gardens members and patrons to support Pet Paradise Resorts as they have supported us."
Pet Paradise's donation joins several other corporate donations, including Pill Box Pharmacies & Medical Supplies, AutoNation, and Beef O'Brady's Cooper City. The Pet Paradise donation brings the total raised for the habitat to $133,400 - just $6,600 shy of the goal total of $140,000. Whole Foods Market in Plantation, FL, recently selected Flamingo Gardens as the non-profit recipient of their "Donate Your Dime" program through July 7th and will soon join the other corporate donors. Flamingo Gardens is still taking donations for the habitat.
