FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – It may have been raining cats and dogs at the Humane Society of Broward County’s 25th Anniversary Walk for the Animals presented by VCA Animal Hospitals and platinum sponsor Activ4Pets, but that did not stop thousands of people and their wet furry friends from uniting at Huizenga Plaza for the annual event.
Stilish Paws was the top fundraising pack and set a new all time Pack record of 88191
WPLG Local 10’s Jacey Birch and 99.9 Kiss Country’s U-Turn Laverne welcomed walkers all morning under overcast skies and registrants were able to enjoy a complimentary pancake breakfast from IHOP and visit dozens of sponsor booths. Event chairs Carey Morgan and Leslie Vincent are thrilled to announce a net profit of more than $563,000 raised! All proceeds support the numerous programs and services provided by the HSBC including: low-cost spay/neuter services – more than 12,000 surgeries performed each year; surrender prevention; free education presentations; cruelty investigations; pet adoption and more.
Walkers enjoyed entertainment provided by the Thunderhead Band and Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches was happy to reward top fundraisers who raised $500+ and all packs raising $5,000+ with sandwiches and cookies at their VIP tent. Kids didn’t mind the rain and had fun in the bounce house, having their faces painted, playing games and enjoying Nestle Nesquik ®.
While walkers completed the 1.2 mile course the money was tallied to reveal the top fundraisers. The amazing amounts raised by these three hardworking people were truly impressive! First Place was Chris Rotolo brought in a whopping $15,044; Gerry Weber was in second place with an incredible $14,276.63; and third place went to Tim Miller, who collected an amazing $10,603.00. The top Packs or teams were pretty fantastic too, with Stilish Paws totaling an all-time Pack record of $88,191.75; PAWS bringing in $36,331.11; and Puppy Peddlers with $28,546.78!!
Several other lucky raffle winners enjoyed prizes including a $225 gift card from Target, a year of pancakes from IHOP and a VIP Panthers Game Experience from BB&T.
