Humane Society of Broward County Chairman of the Board Gerry Weber with his adopted dogs Cody and Lacey. FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – In October 2012, the Humane Society of Broward County Board of Directors elected Gerry Weber as the new Chairman of the Board as Steve Hudson completes his term as Chairman of the Board. Gerry has been actively involved with the HSBC since 2006 and has served as Vice Chairman of the Board since 2011. He has been very involved in leadership for the organization for several years and is also a strong supporter of the educational programs at the shelter and has raised thousands of dollars for Lopster’s Kids Club Pack for the annual Walk for the Animals.
Outgoing Chairman Steve Hudson will remain involved as he has laid the foundation for the construction/remodel project that is going on at the shelter and has committed to the Humane Society of Broward County for many years to come.
Nearly 70 years ago, in 1944, the Humane Society of Broward County was founded. In 1994 a state of the art, 33,000 square foot facility was built and now almost 20 years later the shelter is undergoing extensive updating. The renovation plans include updating the kennel runs to make a more pleasant and relaxing environment for both the dogs and shelter visitors; increasing and improving the layout of the shelter clinic in order to care for more animals and provide additional pet care with the installation of the shelter’s first ever x-ray machine; and increase the size of the Pet Boutique which will result in additional income for the shelter from the many more pet products that we’ll be able to stock for purchase by the public. Additionally, the shelter expects to realize cost savings through more energy-efficient lighting and rebate opportunities from FPL. The building will also be brought up to 2012 building codes which will mean an even more hurricane-resistant building.
During the renovations, the Humane Society of Broward County remains open seven days a week for the convenience of the community and the adoption department opens daily at 10:00 a.m. In addition, low-cost spay/neuter services and vaccinations are still available by appointment.
The Humane Society of Broward County is a private, non-profit organization supported by donations from companies and people who want to help us help the homeless animals. The shelter has only one location at 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL and is not affiliated with any national or local organization with a similar name.
