FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Artist Anna Sweet, who’s current series of “… women immersed in water, at the “decisive moment” of their expression,” met members of PAWS at a recent social at New River Fine Art. She talked about her work and got into the spirit of the evening having brought her mini-Schnauzer Wolfgang to the party. Wolfgang had a chance to meet several other dogs, brought by owners as well as several Humane Society “Adoption Ambassadors” dogs who were looking for forever homes. Guests enjoyed wine and lite-bites, purchased raffle tickets and socialized with fellow PAWS members.
“We were pleased to play host to this PAWS social,” said Lisa Burgess, owner of the Las Olas based art gallery. “We have been an active supporter of the Humane Society since we opened and applaud the efforts of PAWS to raise funds… and awareness for the Humane Society of Broward County.” Lisa brought her dog, Mulligan, a lively Cockapoo, who had a grand time!
PAWS (Pets are Worth Saving) was founded in 1997 to generate awareness and funds for the Humane Society of Broward County. The auxiliary hosts various events throughout the year including PAWS on the Green ladies invitational golf tournament, the Doggie Ball and the Angel PAWS Fashion Show.
Ingrid Poulin, President of PAWS, was thrilled with the event and support from New River Fine Art. “Special events such as this gives PAWS the opportunity to share with members of the community more information about the Humane Society, the wonderful programs and services offered and our auxiliary.”
In commenting on Anna Sweet’s art, Lisa explained that she “…manipulates the images she creates by printing them on aluminum then encasing them in semi-precious materials including crystal, metal pigments, minerals, and glass. Each piece is finished with a UV resin that protects and preserves the underlying photographic print.”
New River Fine Art, at 914 East Las Olas, is one of South Florida’s oldest and most prestigious fine art galleries and is considered the premier source for masterworks and fine contemporary paintings, sculpture and glass art. In addition to the art of Anna Sweet, guests enjoyed the gallery’s exhibit that included works by Salvador Dali, Purvis Young, Royo and Anke Shoelield.
